SORACOM announced that its AI/IoT communication platform has been adopted for RYODEN's AI-powered remote trap monitoring system, 'Pescle Lite,' which launched in October. This initiative aims to streamline patrol and inspection operations within the pest control sector.
'Pescle Lite' is an IoT device designed to be attached to box traps and capture traps for rodents and pests. It incorporates a small camera and a cellular communication module, combining captured images with a proprietary AI algorithm for detecting pests and vermin to identify changes in the device's status. Being battery-powered, it's easy to retrofit to existing equipment and requires no complex setup. Once installed, users can check locations where changes have occurred on the web or receive notifications, enabling the optimization of on-site patrol frequency.
The backdrop to this development is the increasing importance of pest control due to climate change and evolving regulations, coupled with the challenge that manually checking multiple devices is time-consuming and labor-intensive. Pescle Lite supports a shift from operations reliant on regular patrols to data-driven resource allocation, directing personnel to high-priority locations. Especially in factories requiring strict hygiene management, its key features contribute to early detection, root cause analysis, improved pest control quality, and significant labor savings.
Reasons cited for adopting SORACOM include the ability to flexibly procure the necessary number of IoT SIMs as the business expands, the capability to manage communication activation and suspension via the user console, the availability of a "test mode" that reduces communication fees during manufacturing and inventory periods, and the ability to support both domestic and international operations with a single SIM. This configuration facilitates easy deployment even in locations without Wi-Fi infrastructure, such as factory premises or outdoors, and paves the way for future international expansion.
