Newtech will begin selling its new desktop NAS product, the "Ness1300," in October.

Manufactured by Newtech, a storage specialist within the Saxa Group, the device is designed for environments that handle critical data in limited installation spaces, such as clinics, SOHO offices, and surveillance camera systems.

The Ness1300 is the latest model in the Ness series, which launched in 2016, and succeeds the previous "Ness1200." It features updated CPU and memory, an upgraded standard OS to Windows Server IoT 2025 for Storage Standard, and continues to incorporate Newtech's proprietary "Kite" RAID controller. The design utilizes an NVMe M.2 SSD for the OS partition and 3.5-inch SATA HDDs for the data partition, balancing fast boot-up times with maintainability.

For data protection, the Ness1300 aims for stable performance with reduced CPU load compared to software RAID, thanks to its dedicated hardware mirroring for RAID1. It is equipped with HDD hot-swap, auto-rebuild, error recovery, patrol read, and error-skip rebuild functions. These features make it ideal for applications requiring 24/7 operation, such as surveillance camera systems, and environments demanding continuous uptime, like electronic medical record systems.

The main unit measures approximately 154mm (W) x 270mm (D) x 188mm (H) (excluding protrusions and feet), featuring a compact chassis. In addition to prioritizing quiet operation with a large-diameter fan, it also supports remote power control and status monitoring via a BMC port. Furthermore, it comes standard with a management tool that monitors RAID configuration and system status, providing notifications and log storage upon anomaly detection. Positioned as an easy-to-handle NAS for small-scale sites with strict installation requirements, it emphasizes a balance between size and functionality.
