Elecom has launched the "MAGKEEP USB Type-C Memory Card Reader (USB PD Compatible)," which can be securely attached to the back of a smartphone with MagSafe-compatible magnets. It is priced at 3,780 yen.
The new product features a MagSafe-compatible design that directly attaches to smartphones. This makes it easy to operate or shoot while transferring data, preventing the device from dangling. It also allows users to secure storage space while shooting, meaning they can use it without worrying about running out of space for videos and photos. With a thickness of approximately 17mm and a cable length of approximately 0.13m, the design also prioritizes portability.
It features two slots for recording media: SD cards and microSD cards, both supporting UHS-I with a maximum speed of 104MB/s. Furthermore, it supports reading and writing for UHS-II and SD Express compatible cards, and allows for simultaneous connection of two cards for data import and transfer. Equipped with a rotating cover, it also helps protect against dust and debris during outdoor shooting. No dedicated driver installation is required; it can be used simply by connecting it to a USB Type-C compatible smartphone.
In addition, it is equipped with a USB Type-C port dedicated to charging and supports up to 60W power supply via USB Power Delivery. Since it can charge while transferring captured data, it is suitable for long shooting sessions and use on the go. It comes in two colors, black and white, with the white model being an online-exclusive.
