On the 19th, the Digital Agency updated its list of "smartphones compatible with My Number Card on Android." In addition to the existing "electronic certificate function," devices capable of using the "attribute verification function," which launches on October 20th, have been revealed.
The "My Number Card on smartphones" service launched in May 2023 for Android smartphones, incorporating the "electronic certificate function." This enabled the use of electronic signatures and electronic authentication functions, allowing login to MynaPortal, online applications, health insurance card functionality, and the issuance of resident certificates and seal registration certificates at convenience stores.
In June 2025, a service incorporating the "attribute verification function" will launch on iPhones, in addition to this "electronic certificate function." This "attribute verification function" allows verification of name, address, date of birth, gender, My Number, and facial photo. Specifically, it will enable identity verification when opening bank accounts or at local government counters, and in-person age verification using an app (e.g., for serving alcoholic beverages at restaurants).
While iPhones already allowed in-person verification of whether someone is 20 or older, this will now also be available on Android smartphones.
Furthermore, tomorrow, October 20th, both functions will become available on Android smartphones.
To use the "electronic certificate function" on Android smartphones, individual device support was required in addition to NFC. However, full feature support, including the "attribute verification function," will be available on an even smaller subset of these devices. Specifically, this includes relatively newer Pixel models (6 and later), AQUOS (R9 pro, sense10 and later), Xperia (1 VI and later), Galaxy (S24 and later), as well as arrows Alpha2, OPPO Reno15 A, Xiaomi 17T Pro, and others.
