Game company Cygames announced on October 2nd that it has become a support company for the ice dance team formed by figure skaters Marin Honda and Shoma Uno. After excelling in single competitions, both athletes formed the ice dance team "Shomarin" in May 2026.
Both athletes are active outside of figure skating, with Uno, in particular, appearing in commercials for Cygames' title "Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond" as a professional gamer affiliated with a professional esports team.
Following the announcement, Uno posted on his X account (formerly Twitter), "Will my past spending on in-game purchases be reimbursed?" This garnered a huge reaction, becoming a so-called "viral hit" with over 140,000 likes and 18 million views.
Fans reacted with comments such as: "It's a perpetual motion machine where you spend the rewards received from Cygames on Cygames' gacha!" "I might have laughed the most this year." and "Stop quoting and asking the support company!"
