The launch event for the smart AI ring "Vocci," developed by Gyges Labs, was held on August 25th at Roppongi Tsutaya Books, announcing its arrival in Japan.

Vocci is a ring-shaped device equipped with a recording function. It's developed as a lifelogging device that not only records and transcribes audio but also understands the user's real-world context to provide optimal suggestions and summaries.
"We Want to Make Everyone a Superhero"
Domingo Deng, Co-founder and COO of Gyges Labs, took the stage at the event. He spoke about the company's origins and its expectations for the Japanese market.
Gyges Labs is a global company headquartered in Singapore with AI and software development bases in Silicon Valley. Its mission is "to make everyone a superhero," and the company name "Gyges" is derived from "the Ring of Gyges," an item from Plato's Republic said to grant its owner infinite power.
The management team boasts members with extremely strong backgrounds, including CEO JY, who holds a Ph.D. from Stanford University and has lectured at the University of Tokyo; CPTO Felix, who contributed to the development of Apple Vision Pro; and Siyuan, a former Google Senior Research Scientist. Domingo himself has 20 years of experience in consumer electronics and global supply chains, with a track record of shipping over 10 million devices worldwide.
He emphasized, "AI should not be confined to the backend of PCs or chatbots; it should truly understand the context of our daily lives and assist us when needed." While the company achieved success with a direct-to-consumer (D2C) model in the American market, for its entry into Japan, it adopted a B2B2C model, partnering with Focal Point, a company with 37 years of experience, to address Japanese consumers' emphasis on quality, privacy, and long-term support.
Giving Real-World Context to AI That Doesn't Know "You"
Regarding the product, Mr. Tanaka from Focal Point, responsible for its domestic market expansion, took the stage to explain the new AI experience Vocci offers.
In recent years, AI has evolved remarkably, capable of instantly retrieving information from around the world and assisting with writing and brainstorming. However, there's one thing even this smart AI doesn't know: "you," the user's real daily life. Even an AI that references global information to provide answers cannot immediately explain your personal context, such as "who you talked to today, where you went, and what you felt." (Gyges refers to this as the "real-world context layer," essentially indicating that AI can do nothing without input.)
Furthermore, while user actions are digitally recorded and scattered across smartphone photos, calendars, and social media, these records are fragmented. Vocci functions as an infrastructure device specifically designed to connect this "real world" with "AI."
This allows AI to evolve from a mere general assistant into a true personal agent that deeply understands the context of your world. The slogan "We are the context looping real life," mentioned in a video message from founder JY, signifies a new productivity loop where real-world events are recorded, organized and summarized by AI, and then returned to the real world as the next action.
Jewelry-like Elegance and Robust Hardware Performance
As a device meant to be worn constantly, Vocci meticulously balances design and functionality. It uses aerospace-grade titanium, giving it a luxurious, jewelry-like feel while also being hypoallergenic. With high IP67 dust and water resistance, there's no need to remove it when washing hands, and it can even be worn in the shower.
Operation is extremely simple: wear it on your index finger and tap with your thumb. A double-click starts/stops recording, a single click during recording "highlights" important scenes, and a long press summons Vocci's original AI.
Despite being a small ring, its built-in high-sensitivity microphone performs exceptionally well, reportedly picking up audio clearly from up to 5 meters away. This suggests it can be used without issue in large meetings. The ring also has internal storage, allowing up to 8 hours of continuous recording even without a smartphone connection. This is great for instantly recording ideas that come to mind in environments without communication, such as on an airplane. When used with the charging case, it offers up to 32 hours of use and supports fast charging.
Supports Over 100 Languages and Seamlessly Integrates with Various Apps
During Mr. Tanaka's demonstration, the actual app screen was revealed. Audio data recorded by Vocci is uploaded to the cloud via a smartphone and transcribed quickly and with high accuracy. It supports over 100 languages. Notably, even in meetings where multiple languages like Japanese, English, and Chinese are spoken, it accurately recognizes and transcribes each language, then automatically summarizes it in the user's primary language (e.g., Japanese).
The summarization function is also powerful, automatically categorizing and organizing content into overviews, topics, chapters, key points, to-dos, unresolved issues, and decisions. Export in Markdown format is also possible.
Furthermore, it supports MCP (Model Context Protocol), allowing Vocci's log data to be read from chat interfaces of major LLMs like ChatGPT and Claude, and integrated with MCP-compatible productivity apps such as Google Calendar, Notion, and Evernote.
The demo showcased accessing Vocci's server from ChatGPT to retrieve past meeting minutes and answer questions, as well as giving verbal instructions to Vocci AI to automatically set up Google Calendar integration, demonstrating its high convenience.
Naturally, security is also a priority, with maximum consideration for privacy, including local encryption, user-managed synchronization settings, and secure server storage compliant with GDPR and SOC2 (application pending).
Strengths and Future Prospects Revealed in Q&A, Crowdfunding Information
During the Q&A session, many questions were asked regarding the product name and features. First, about the origin of the name "Vocci": it comes from "Voice," embodying the meaning of visualizing voice. It was also noted that the name has a friendly sound in Japan. (In Japanese, "bocchi" can refer to being "alone" or "solitary." While the trademark has been acquired, the katakana spelling "ヴォッチ" will be used.)
When asked about differentiation from other devices like Apple Watch, the response was that "the form factor of a ring, which is always visible to others, is crucial." For example, when shaking hands with an overseas business person, the ring naturally catches their eye, potentially initiating communication like "May I record this?" This emphasizes a design that considers social acceptance.
Regarding subscription plans, it was revealed that in addition to a free starter plan (5 hours of transcription per month, 2GB storage), there will be a Plus plan (¥3,000/month or ¥22,000/year, 10GB storage) and a Pro plan (¥6,000/month or ¥45,000/year, 20GB storage). While the subscription is somewhat expensive, it promises powerful AI features and cross-conversation search capabilities commensurate with the monthly fee.
Vocci's pre-sale in Japan is scheduled to begin on the crowdfunding site "GREEN FUNDING" from 11:00 AM on September 30, 2026. The planned price for general release is ¥49,990, but on GREEN FUNDING, support is available starting from ¥29,990, offering up to a 43% discount.
