Microsoft has begun the rollout of Windows 11 26H2. It will be progressively delivered via Windows Update.
Our editorial team has confirmed that 26H2 is indeed appearing on our machines. As Windows Update currently rolls out updates incrementally with monthly releases, the time required for the 26H2 update is expected to be short. Furthermore, users eager to receive it as soon as possible should enable "Get the latest updates as soon as they're available" to ensure it appears once they become eligible for the rollout.
One of the flagship new features in Windows 11 26H2 is the ability to position the taskbar to the top, bottom, left, or right of the screen. The taskbar being fixed to the bottom of the screen was a prominent point of user frustration in Windows 11, and this update addresses that. However, it's important to note that the taskbar cannot be moved by dragging with a mouse (changes must be made via the "Settings" app), and it's not possible to set different taskbar positions for each screen if you want it to appear on all displays. On a related note, users can now also set the taskbar size to "small."
