On September 30, Amazon announced the new 4K streaming media player "Fire TV Stick 4K" and a redesigned "Fire TV Remote." The launch of "Fire TV Remote Plus," an enhanced version of the Fire TV Remote, is also planned.
The Fire TV Stick 4K inherits the popular slim stick design and the ability to be powered directly from a TV's USB port, features well-received in the "Fire TV Stick HD" announced in April. Its picture quality has evolved to 4K. Compared to other 4K resolution products, it is faster than the "Fire TV Stick 4K Select" released last October. Priced at 11,980 yen, it is available starting today. During the "Prime Thanksgiving Sale" (including early access sales) starting October 13, it will be sold at a Prime member-exclusive price of 5,980 yen.
The Fire TV Remote adopts a new design that is more comfortable in hand, featuring an intuitive and easy-to-understand button layout, a flat front, and a gently curved back. Furthermore, by softening the sharp edges, curving the back surface, and lowering the overall center of gravity, it is said to naturally fit into the palm of your hand when gripped.
Comparison with previous model
Additionally, the remote's "Home button," which is pressed an average of over 100 million times a day globally, now uses recycled aluminum for improved durability. Its dome shape allows users to intuitively recognize its position by touch alone. The button is an orange dome with a white home icon, making it visually identifiable as the Home button at a glance.
The "Custom button," previously featured on the "Alexa Voice Remote Pro" sold as a premium remote, has also been added to the "Fire TV Remote." The Fire TV Remote is also bundled with the new "Fire TV Stick 4K."
Comparison of Fire TV Remote and Fire TV Remote Plus
The Fire TV Remote Plus, in addition to Fire TV functionalities, features backlit buttons and a premium aluminum body. It also includes the "Find My Remote" function, previously available on the Alexa Voice Remote Pro. By asking an Alexa-enabled device (sold separately), "Alexa, find my remote," the remote will emit a sound, making it easy to locate even if it's lost in sofa cushions or other places.
The Fire TV Remote is priced at 2,980 yen, with pre-orders starting today. Shipping is expected to begin on October 22. The Fire TV Remote Plus is scheduled for release in 2027.
