This series summarizes the weekly movements of low-cost SIMs, SIM-free smartphones, and more, along with a price list of major low-cost SIMs. Last week, Docomo's "ahamo" announced a price increase starting in December. It will transition to a three-tier system of 40GB/60GB/120GB, with the 40GB plan seeing a 165 yen increase from the previous 2970 yen to 3135 yen.
Docomo's 'ahamo' Had Increased to 40GB per Month with a Campaign in August This Year; Price Hike as Expected, but Small Increase Amount Suggests Other Carriers in Mind
Docomo's online-only plan "ahamo" announced new prices starting in December. It will become a three-tier system of 40GB/60GB/120GB, priced at 3135 yen/4125 yen/5115 yen respectively. Compared to the current situation, this is a monthly increase of 165 yen (the same applies to "ahamo Oomori"). Additionally, it is possible to set an upper limit for each tier.
ahamo sees a slight price increase, becoming a three-tier system.
ahamo launched in June 2022. At that time, it was 2970 yen for 20GB per month (including unlimited calls up to 5 minutes per call). The price remained unchanged, and the data was increased to 30GB per month in October 2024. Furthermore, in August this year, it became 40GB per month as part of the "Data Increase Trial Campaign."
This is the first price revision since ahamo launched, but the price increase is quite small at 165 yen. On the other hand, the content of "Bakuage Selection" has been expanded. For example, Netflix cashback increased from 10% to 20%, making it easier to offset the price increase. (Note: The cashback rate will decrease on December 10, 2025, so if you subscribed to eligible services before then, the cashback rate will not change.)
The cashback rate for "Bakuage Selection" will be as of November 2025.
Additionally, the data volume available for international roaming has increased from the conventional 30GB per month to 40GB per month. For those who frequently travel abroad or subscribe to eligible services, it could even be considered a better deal.
Looking at rivals, LINEMO "Best Plan V" offers 30GB per month for 2970 yen, and UQ mobile "Komikomi Plan Value" offers 35GB per month for 3828 yen. Amidst ongoing difficult evaluations of communication quality, it might be possible to view this as a reason why a significant price increase was difficult. We will continue to pay attention to whether rivals will respond by December, when the price increase actually takes effect.
Old Plans Whose New Subscriptions Have Ended Also See Price Increases, Including 'OCN Mobile ONE', with a Monthly Increase of 110-330 Yen
Docomo also renewed its small-capacity plan "Docomo mini." For details on this, please refer to a separate article (Docomo also raises prices for old plans whose subscriptions have ended by 110-550 yen per month, including the small-capacity "Docomo mini"). Furthermore, existing plans whose new subscriptions have ended are also seeing price increases. This includes "OCN Mobile ONE," which was absorbed by Docomo, with an increase of 110-330 yen. Users who continue to use OCN Mobile ONE should check this.
The biggest change for "Docomo mini" is the addition of a family discount.
The price increases for old plans are as shown. OCN Mobile ONE is also included.
