NTT Docomo has announced a renewal of its online-only plan, 'ahamo.' It will now feature a three-tier system of 40GB, 60GB, and 120GB. The 40GB tier will be priced from ¥3,135 per month, effectively a ¥165 increase from the current ¥2,970. The new pricing will take effect from December 1st this year.

ahamo moves to a three-tier pricing system, slightly diminishing its simplicity.

Was the 40GB Campaign in August a Prelude to This Price Hike!?

The 'data increase campaign' that began in August was indeed groundwork for the price hike. ahamo originally launched with 20GB per month for ¥2,970. In October 2024, the data allowance increased to 30GB per month without a change in price. Furthermore, in August this year, the usable data volume increased to 40GB as part of the 'Data Increase Trial Campaign.'

For usage exceeding 40GB up to 60GB, the monthly fee will be ¥4,125. For usage exceeding 60GB up to 120GB, it will be ¥5,115 per month. Users can set a cap at each tier. Along with this change, the 'Oomori Option' (Large Serving Option) will be discontinued. 'ahamo Poikatsu' (ahamo Point Activity), which was predicated on the 'Oomori Option,' will now apply when using 60-120GB.

Discount Rate Increases for Third-Party Content Subscriptions, Overseas Roaming Data Also Boosted from 30GB to 40GB

Furthermore, the content of 'Bakuage Selection' has been expanded, and the point return rate has increased. For example, Netflix's return rate will go from 10% to 20%. Users who utilize 'Bakuage Selection' can effectively absorb the price increase with this alone (Note: If you subscribed to eligible services before December 9, 2025, when the return rate was higher, the return rate will not change).

'Bakuage Selection' content is enhanced, increasing its value.

Regarding the data volume available for overseas roaming, from December onwards, it will also increase from the conventional 30GB to 40GB.

The ahamo price hike feels like a 'finally...' moment, but the impression is that the increase was relatively small. Users who subscribe to 'Bakuage Selection' eligible services should make good use of them to save on costs.
