Handheld gaming PCs have finally surpassed ¥250,000.
ASUS JAPAN began domestic pre-orders for the portable gaming PC "ROG XBOX Ally X20" on September 17. It will be released on October 16 with a price of ¥258,800.
The biggest evolution is the display. For the first time in the ROG Ally series, it adopts a 7.4-inch OLED "ROG Nebula HDR" display. It features a resolution of 1920x1080 dots, a refresh rate of 120Hz, and supports VRR and HDR. The peak brightness during HDR is up to 1400 nits.
It is equipped with an 8-core, 16-thread "AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme" processor. It features 24GB LPDDR5X memory, 1TB NVMe SSD storage, and an 80Wh battery capacity. The OS is Windows 11 Home, and it also supports microSD Express.
For controls, it adopts drift-resistant TMR joysticks and a variable D-Pad that can switch between 4-way and 8-way input. The exterior combines a translucent black base with gold accents, and the back features a ROG 20th-anniversary badge.
While performance and operability have improved from the previous model, the price has finally reached the ¥250,000 range, approaching that of a typical gaming PC. It will be interesting to see user reactions regarding how much performance and price are acceptable for a handheld gaming device.
