On October 28, Dropbox Japan announced that CoMix Wave Films has leveraged Dropbox Advanced in its animation production workflow to protect intellectual property while achieving efficient file sharing and enhanced productivity.

CoMix Wave Films is an anime studio involved in everything from planning and producing animated films to theatrical distribution, international sales, and artist management. Previously, the company relied on FTP servers for file sharing, but this presented concerns regarding encryption and access control, as well as difficulties with user account sharing and history management. To address these issues, the studio adopted Dropbox Advanced, transitioning to an operational model that utilizes data encryption, view-only URLs, activity logs, auditing features, and a 365-day data recovery function.

The implementation began in May 2025, with accounts distributed to all employees in the production and business divisions. This helped curb the use of external free file-sharing services and prevented account sharing. Operationally, account deletions due to resignations or leaves of absence can now be performed with just a few clicks from the administration screen, reportedly leading to a significant reduction in inquiries. The key benefit is the creation of an environment where staff can focus on their core tasks, alongside the reduced burden on administrators.

Most recently, Dropbox also played a crucial role in director Ryo Katanosaka's film "Shiranuhi," which premiered in theaters in August 2026. The production, involving over 300 cuts, frequently required the exchange of large-capacity files. By utilizing a combination of standard sharing features, Dropbox Transfer (which allows sending up to 100GB), and view-only links, the studio achieved secure and efficient operations. The 5TB capacity per account and the review feature, Dropbox Replay, are also drawing attention, and the company plans to unify file sharing across its entire production process with Dropbox in the future.
