LINE Yahoo announced on November 6th that it would gradually begin supporting passkeys in LINE. This feature is available for app version 26.17.0 or higher, and if set up in advance, users can log in to their new smartphone without entering a password after changing devices.
Passkeys are a login method that utilizes the device's identity verification features, such as facial recognition and fingerprint authentication. This eliminates the need to remember and input complex passwords, reducing the anxiety of being unable to recall a password and transfer an account when changing devices, or in the event of device loss or malfunction.
To register, navigate to LINE's "Settings," then "Account," "Passkey," and "Create Passkey," following the on-screen instructions. If using the same Apple account or Google account, registered passkeys can be utilized on the new smartphone as well.
Even when transferring devices between iPhone and Android, if the environment is supported, LINE passkeys can be copied in advance between "iCloud Keychain" and "Google Password Manager." This copying process uses the OS or password management features, not the LINE app itself. It is stated that if copied beforehand, users can log in even if their previous device is not available.
Note that simply setting up a passkey does not automatically transfer accounts or chat history. The official guide advises preparing a chat history backup and a backup PIN before changing devices.
