Elecom has launched active touch pens for Surface, models "P-TPMPP03BK" and "P-TPMPP03WBK," which are compatible with Microsoft Pen Protocol 2.0 (MPP 2.0). The price is open. The P-TPMPP03WBK is an online-exclusive model that differs by not including a USB Type-C cable.
This product is characterized by its support for pressure sensitivity and tilt detection, allowing for shading expressions similar to a traditional writing instrument. It is designed to minimize discrepancies between the pen tip and the display position, as well as latency, enabling more natural drawing and handwriting input. Furthermore, it features palm rejection, allowing users to draw while resting their palm on the screen without accidental input.
The pen tip uses highly conductive polyacetal resin (POM), ensuring smooth operation even over a glass film. The pen body has a D-shape, designed to prevent it from rolling off a desk. No pairing is required; it automatically activates when the pen tip approaches the screen and enters sleep mode after 30 minutes of inactivity, making it ready to use whenever needed.
Regarding power, a full charge takes approximately 60 minutes with the included USB Type-C cable, providing about 200 hours of continuous use on a full charge. Two replacement pen tips and a pen tip removal tool are also included, allowing for extended use by replacing worn tips. Compatible devices include Surface models that support Microsoft Pen Protocol 2.0, but it is not compatible with all models, so users should check Elecom's compatibility chart before purchasing.
