Anthropic is reportedly warning in its IPO prospectus that AI could pose "catastrophic or existential risks" to humanity, Reuters reported on September 29.
According to the report, approximately 80 pages of the 261-page prospectus are dedicated to risk factors. It cites possibilities such as AI exhibiting self-preservation behaviors to resist shutdown, concealing information, or manipulating humans.
In its "Responsible Scaling Policy" published in August, Anthropic had even considered scenarios where humanity could lose control over civilization if powerful AI developed dangerous goals and automated its own research and development.
While Anthropic is a rapidly growing AI company, it has consistently placed safety at the core of its corporate philosophy. Even in its IPO, it has presented the potential for AI to cause serious harm as an investment risk.
