Sukiya's Roast Pork Bowl, what does it taste like?

Hello everyone, I'm Nabeko, the Mogumogu Woman!

Sukiya, the gyudon chain, launched its "Roast Pork Bowl" (regular size 780 yen~) on October 14.

Oh, I see, roast pork!

Sukiya previously released a "Roast Beef Bowl" made with beef in November 2025. It was so popular that it quickly sold out, leading to a temporary suspension of sales. It even made a limited-time comeback in February this year, generating quite a buzz.

Available from October 14

This time, it's roast pork instead of beef. True to Sukiya's style, there are also versions with garlic and soft-boiled egg (ontama) toppings.

Not Roast Beef, but Roast Pork! The Flavor Profile is Stamina-Boosting

When you say autumn, you think garlic (whether that's true or not is beside the point), so as a garlic lover, I, Nabeko, chose the "Garlic Roast Pork Bowl" with fried garlic.

I bought it for takeout and immediately gave it a try!

▲ "Garlic Roast Pork Bowl" (regular size) 850 yen. For takeout, the ingredients and rice were separated to prevent them from touching.

The moment I opened the lid, a strong garlic aroma hit me! Was this from the fried garlic, or the roast pork sauce? To put it simply, it was both!

The sauce came separately. I thought, "Oh, so I'll season it myself~", but the rice already had some sauce on it.

With the sauce-soaked rice plus the extra sauce to pour on, the seasoning was spot on. It's always a bit disappointing when the flavor is too light, so this robust approach was delightful. Now, I placed the thinly sliced roast pork in a generous pile on top of the rice. Then came the shredded green onions, and finally, a generous scattering of fried garlic.

I counted about 8 pieces of fried garlic. Sukiya regularly sells fried garlic as a topping, so I've gotten used to this sight recently, but if you think about it calmly, it's a surprising amount to have in a bowl, isn't it?

I also poured on the sauce

Taking a bite, ah, this is it! It's like a staff meal from a yakiniku restaurant!

First, the roast pork bowl's sauce itself is heavily garlicky. It's a special sauce based on soy sauce, blended with grated onions, garlic, and black pepper.

It's an appetizing seasoning, reminiscent of yakiniku sauce. With the addition of fluffy fried garlic, it becomes a powerful, stamina-boosting meal.

When I think of roast pork, I usually imagine a slightly milder flavor, but this is roast pork meant to be devoured. The rice just keeps disappearing!

Deliciously Moist Pork!

And the roast pork itself is moist and tender.

The roast pork is so tender~

They use pork shoulder loin, slow-cooked at a low temperature. It's not overly fatty or too thin and prone to tearing; with every bite, you can subtly taste the umami of the pork.

As I also felt with the Roast Beef Bowl, Sukiya puts a lot of effort into its limited-time offerings. The meat itself is genuinely delicious.

The roast pork itself is light, so it pairs well with the punchy garlic topping. Furthermore, the crisp shredded green onions do an excellent job.

Incidentally, the "Roast Beef Bowl" that appeared last year also featured a soy-based sauce with garlic and black pepper. However, the Roast Beef Bowl was served with egg and horseradish, giving it a strong impression of beef tataki, whereas this time, it feels much more geared towards a stamina-boosting meal.

The meat is moist and easy to eat

What's also great is that the roast pork is moist and easy to eat. While the fried garlic topping might be hard to choose frequently due to the smell, I'd want to eat the plain, normal version often.

More Affordable Than Roast Beef. A Bowl for Days You Need a Boost!

Let's also look at the price. Last year's "Roast Beef Bowl" was 890 yen for a regular size, but this "Roast Pork Bowl" is 780 yen for a regular size. That's 110 yen more affordable.

The "Garlic Roast Pork Bowl" I ate was also 850 yen for a regular size, making it 40 yen cheaper than the Roast Beef Bowl.

The Roast Beef Bowl felt like a small treat, but this is a meat bowl for days when you want to eat heartily and feel energized.

The normal "Roast Pork Bowl" starts from 780 yen~

While it's not an exceptionally fancy dish, I feel like there aren't surprisingly many readily available stamina-boosting meals like this.

Sukiya's new offering is quite good, isn't it! As a garlic lover, I absolutely recommend the "garlic topping".
