Elecom announced that four models of its Wi-Fi 7-compatible wireless access points for businesses have obtained the conformity label ★1 (Level 1) under the "Security Requirement Conformity Assessment and Labeling System (JC-STAR)" for IoT products, established by the Information-technology Promotion Agency, Japan (IPA). The target products are the four models: the flagship WAB-BE187-M, WAB-BE72-M, WAB-BE36-M, and WAB-BE36-S. All are wireless LAN devices designed for deployment in corporations, local governments, and educational institutions. Prices are ¥125,950 for the WAB-BE187-M, ¥76,560 for the WAB-BE72-M, ¥60,500 for the WAB-BE36-M, and ¥52,800 for the WAB-BE36-S.
The WAB-BE187-M is a tri-band model capable of simultaneous use of 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz bands, offering a maximum communication speed of 18700Mbps. It supports up to 768 device connections (256 devices per band) and features an "Equal Communication Function" to minimize variations during video playback and data downloads. It is positioned as a flagship device for large-scale sites with numerous simultaneous connections.
The WAB-BE72-M is a 7200Mbps model supporting up to 512 connections (256 devices per band), ensuring stable communication in environments requiring many connections, such as offices and classrooms. The WAB-BE36-M is a 3600Mbps standard model, supporting up to 256 connections (128 devices per band), making it suitable for small to medium-sized offices and stores. The WAB-BE36-S also supports 3600Mbps, boasts the most compact form factor among Elecom's Wi-Fi 7 business access points, and supports simultaneous communication on the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.
JC-STAR is a system based on the "Policy for Establishing a Security Conformity Assessment System for IoT Products" announced by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) in August 2024. Its aim is to visualize the security functions of IoT products using common standards, making it easier for procurers to compare them. The system has levels ranging from ★1 to ★4, with the current certification (★1) indicating compliance with criteria for addressing minimum threats.
