Monster Hunter Demos Are Hugely Popular, But Switch 2 Wilds and Outlanders Have More Availability

As expected, the Capcom booth is a huge success at Tokyo Game Show 2026. In particular, playable demos for "Monster Hunter" titles, especially 'Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance,' are incredibly popular, drawing massive crowds.

'Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance' is making its world premiere as a playable demo at TGS2026. With 60 demo stations available, visitors can experience three types of quests set in the new field "Cloud-Dwelling Ruins" for 20 minutes. However, its popularity is immense, and when I visited, there was already a waiting list for cancellations.

However, during the times I observed, there was relatively more availability for demos of the Nintendo Switch 2 version of 'Monster Hunter Wilds' and 'Monster Hunter Outlanders'.

The Nintendo Switch 2 version of 'Monster Hunter Wilds' is scheduled for release on December 4, 2026. At TGS, players can experience 4-player multiplayer in handheld mode. Two types of quests are available: a beginner-friendly quest to hunt Kematoris, and an expert-level quest to challenge Lagiacrus.

While crowd conditions vary by time, it would be a shame to turn back immediately thinking, "Ascendance is full, so no Monster Hunter for me today..." If you take a look around the entire booth, you might find a chance to try out another Monster Hunter title.

It's Too Big...! Lao-Shan Lung's Tail Crosses the Giant Screen

Beyond the playable demos, for anyone coming specifically for Monster Hunter, I want to tell you: "Go around to the back of the booth!" What immediately caught my eye and made me stop was the enormous display in the 'Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance' area.

Next to the screen, there are height markers at 2.5m, 5m, 10m, and 15m, designed to help you grasp just how massive the featured monsters truly are.

Then, Lao-Shan Lung appeared, and it was simply enormous. Its colossal body traversed the screen, culminating in a mighty tail swipe. While its immense size usually makes it impossible to capture entirely on a typical game screen, seeing it presented with a size comparison truly makes you feel overwhelmed by the scale, making you wonder, "Hunters were fighting this?"

Lao-Shan Lung is one of the monsters making a return in 'Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance'. This title is a massive expansion content that depicts the story after the main 'Wilds' game, adding new fields, new monsters, and new hunter actions, and is scheduled for release in 2027.

Monster Hunter's 'Immense Scale' Will Make You Stop, Even Without Playing the Demo

The Capcom booth offers a substantial amount of content just for Monster Hunter, including the world-first playable demo of 'Ascendance,' 'Monster Hunter Outlanders,' and the Nintendo Switch 2 version of 'Wilds'. Additionally, numerous other titles like 'Onimusha Way of the Sword,' 'Pragmata,' and 'Street Fighter 6' are available for demo.

While crowds are unavoidable due to the popularity of these titles, that's precisely why I recommend walking around the entire booth. You can look for an open demo station, or simply be awestruck by the sheer scale of the giant monsters.

In particular, Lao-Shan Lung crossing the giant display is an impactful exhibit that will make you stop and exclaim, "Whoa, that's huge!" even if you're not playing the game. If you visit the Capcom booth, don't just stick to the front; make sure to take a full tour around to the back.
