The 'Ura Tsukimi' Moniker Removed from the Menchi Katsu Burger

Since 2024, Mos has been offering an "Ura Tsukimi" item featuring Menchi Katsu as a counterpart to the Tsukimi Focaccia. Last year, the "Menchi Katsu Cheese Burger" was introduced and became a hit, selling over 1.7 million units.

However, this year's newly introduced "Menchi Katsu Cheese Burger ~Demi-Glace Sauce~" (510 yen) does not bear the words "Ura Tsukimi."

The product itself is still going strong. It's a hearty burger featuring a Menchi Katsu made from a blend of beef and pork. Until last year, it had a classic sauce flavor that paired well with Menchi Katsu, but this year, the flavor has changed.

This year, the sauce has been renewed

Sliced cheese is layered on the Menchi Katsu, topped with a demi-glace sauce containing mushrooms. Balsamic vinegar is used as a secret ingredient, adding a light aftertaste despite the juicy Menchi Katsu. Mos is promoting this product not as a Tsukimi item, but as a dish for "Autumn Appetite." Questions about "Ura Tsukimi" were raised at the press conference. Mos explained that while it will be sold as a product to be enjoyed during the Tsukimi season, they have stopped using the term "Tsukimi" for it.

This Year's Sales Target: 1.8 Million Units

I see. So, "Ura Tsukimi" itself is gone, but the Menchi Katsu product that grew out of it is still here. Or rather, perhaps it was a bit of a stretch to call a Menchi Katsu burger without any Tsukimi elements "Ura Tsukimi" in the first place (chuckles). That's what Nabeko (the author) thinks.

Nevertheless, this hearty burger is reportedly popular every time it appears, and this year, they are aiming to sell 1.8 million units, an increase of 100,000 units over last year's sales.

Even if the moon wanes, the Menchi Katsu doesn't. All's well that ends well. And that's perfectly fine, isn't it? The sales period is until early November!
