Makita announced on September 10th the CL287FD cordless vacuum cleaner, the first in its 18V battery series to feature an electric rotating brush. Launched on the same day, the street price is ¥93,170 with battery and charger, and ¥57,750 for the main unit only. It comes in two colors: gray and white.
The new power nozzle, which rotates the brush with a motor, is a key addition. It can effectively suction while raking out debris entangled in long-pile carpets, and the propulsion from the rotating brush allows for effortless movement. It also includes a feature that automatically stops the brush when the nozzle is lifted from the floor.
Suction power is rated at 110W in "Powerful" mode. It offers four selectable levels: "Strong" at 60W, "Standard" at 35W, and "Eco" at 15W. Even in Powerful mode, the noise level is kept down to 66dB(A).
The dust collection system is an integrated cyclone type with a capacity of 250mL. The rotating brush can be removed without tools for easy maintenance.
When using a 3.0Ah 18V battery, continuous operating times are approximately 8 minutes in Powerful, 15 minutes in Strong, 21 minutes in Standard, and 38 minutes in Eco mode. The main unit, including the battery, weighs 1.5kg, and the battery is compatible with over 350 models in Makita's 18V series.
While the adoption of the power nozzle significantly enhances cleaning performance, especially on carpets, the price has also increased considerably. This somewhat diminishes the low price and ease of use that have traditionally been strengths of Makita's stick vacuum cleaners.
